The 8-Hour Course, also referred to as the "Drug & Alcohol class" is required for all students before they take their road test. At the end of the course, you will be given your e-DEC certificate which you present to the DMV on the day of your Road Test.
e-DECs cannot be issued unless you have a learner's permit, but you can still take the course without a permit. Just be sure to call the office once you have your permit and your certificate will be issued.
To rent a vehicle for your road test car rentals require a minimum 2-hour Behind the Wheel lesson & receive certification according to DMV regulation: "Received at least two hours of behind-the-wheel instruction, attained proficiency in the operation of a motor vehicle, and considered a safe and capable driver by this school in accordance with the provisions of Section 14-78-36 of the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies."
You are eligible to take your Road Test 90 days after you get your Learner’s Permit. For teenagers, you must wait 180 days.
The Electronic Driver Education Certificate does not expire.
Cancellations are subject to a 10% refund and restocking fee. You must call the office for a refund.
If you fail the road test you must wait a minimum of two weeks (14 days) before taking the road test again and must repay the License Exam Fee.

The applicant must bring proof of residency with two (2) pieces of mail older than 90 days proving they lived at their OLD Connecticut address and two (2) pieces of mail from their NEW address.
No. Every applicant must understand and speak enough English to understand basic driving instructions from the DMV agent and to read the road signs.
If you do not receive your learner's permit or driver's license because you have moved within thirty (30) days from passing your tests, you must contact the Central Issuance Unit at (860) 263-5247.
No. Drive Only licenses are only valid for driving purposes and cannot be used as identification. In addition, Drive Only licenses are not valid for identification for voting purposes. EXCEPTION: A Drive Only license can be used to register a motor vehicle in Connecticut.
There are no restrictions unique to the Drive Only license except it cannot be used for identification. If the Drive Only holder is under 18, they must comply with the state's teen driving laws that do include curfews, passenger restrictions, etc.
