8 Tips to Reduce Nervousness Before Your Driving Exam

Some of us have been there, where we feel confident before taking an exam, but once we’re taking it, we panic and start to get nervous. This nervous feeling can be our biggest drawback when trying to obtain a driving license. We could’ve been practicing for a long time with a driving teacher, but if we don’t overcome this feeling, there is a greater chance of making mistakes during the driving exam.

This nervous feeling that I’m talking about is when your hands get sweaty, your heart is pounding so hard it feels like it’s about to come out of your chest, and you get a pit in your stomach that doesn’t go away.

To reduce your nervousness simply follow the steps below.

  1. Be confident

You have to be confident in your driving skill and tell yourself that you are ready for this test. The more confident you are, the better settling your nerves will get.

When you’re taking your driving classes the instructor already believes that you are ready to pass the test. If the driving instructor believes that you are ready, then you have to believe it as well.

  1. Make sure to eat

The last thing you want is your stomach to be rumbling while the test is ongoing, then you start thinking about food.

You need to be focused on what you’re doing and making sure your driving technique is perfect. Hunger can be a distraction

  1. Pretend like it’s a practice round

If you think of the driving test as a test, it may cause your anxiety and nervousness to soar even greater. So, the best way to get around this is to think back to your student driving classes days.

Ignore the inspector and his sheet and just focus on the driving.

  1. Arrive early

Do not oversleep or underestimate how long it going to take you to get to the testing site. If you’re running late, then you will start to become stressed. If this happens, then you’re already starting the test wrong, even before you start taking it.

Arrive at least 15 minutes before so you can get a good spot.

  1. Go to the bathroom beforehand

Trust me, you would want to go to the bathroom before your test. The need to use the bathroom can be another distraction that can lead to driving errors.

  1. Don’t over-prepare

One of the worse things you can do is over prepare for something. Although it may seem counterintuitive, over-preparing may cause more harm than good.

You might focus too much on one area of the test and you completely disregard the other skills you have to show.

  1. Get some sleep

The night before a big test can make you crazy sometimes. You start to make up random scenarios in your head before you sleep, and this will cause you to stay up all night.

You need a good night’s sleep before the driving exam so you can be mentally and physically ready.

  1. Take your time on the test

Remember that the test isn’t meant for you to complete it in a fast time. It’s meant for you to take it and demonstrate the necessary skills needed to drive.

So, take your time with the exam with the test and most importantly BREATH!
